Sen/Res Vs Eglish Match Report

The reserves and seniors were at home in Plunkett Park on Friday 9th July to Eglish.
RESERVES Vs EGLISH
0.6 – 2.15
The reserves were up against a very strong side in Eglish and from the start Eglish took control with our boys trying to keep some control, our three scores in the first half from Justin Lambe (0-2) and Brendan Burns (0-1). Half time score 0-3 to 0-9. In the second half Brendan Burns opened the scoring followed by Stephen Colhoun but that was to be the end of our scores and Eglish tightened up and pulled ahead to win the game.
TEAM: John McCourt, Michael Mills, Joe Cunningham, Aaron McMahon, Niall McKeever, Brendan Burns, Gareth McAleer, Hugh McNamee, Kevin Armstrong, Eunan McCourt, Stephen Colhoun, Justin Lambe, Ciaran Mullan, Jason Corcoran and Kevin Nugent. Sub on the day were Marty McCreesh.
SENIORS Vs EGLISH
With a delay due to injuries in the reserve game and very wet weather the senior game got underway a bit later than expected, and it was Eglish who opened the scoring in the third minute with a point put over from a free. Minutes later Eglish worked the ball inside but Aaron McMahon was ready and pulled off a superb save. Eglish were in control at this stage and put over another two points. With some great defending it was another ten minutes before Eglish were able to score their next three points putting them six points up. Sean Murphy turned it around when he was able to put over a free in the twenty third minute, to put Pomeroy on the scoring sheet followed quickly by Sean Quinn. With great midfielding, Ollie McCreesh was able to close the gap to one point when he scored a goal. Half time score 1.2 – 0-6.
Sean Murphy opened the second half scoring in the first minute of play and again putting over a free. Eglish replied with three points, this was becoming a very fast paced game which both teams were hungry to win. Sean Quinn put over another point before Eglish was again able to put over three quick points. But in the seventeenth minute when Jarlath was fouled in the square and awarded a penalty it was Ollie who put us back in with a goal and again with there was just one point in the game, and the Eglish goalie found himself under attack again two minutes later when Brendan Cunningham hammered the ball into the back of the net, putting Pomeroy two points up. But it was never going to be that easy and Eglish pulled back with three points before they got a goal which put distance between the two teams of four points the difference and they continued to put more distance between the two sides when they scored the last two points of the game. All in all this was a very exciting game which brought the spectators to the edge of their seats with good football from both sides but Eglish’s ability to put over quick points just game them edge on the game.
TEAM; Aaron McMahon, Aidan Cunningham, Michael Quinn, Martin McKeever, Hugh Pat McGeary, Denver Nugent, Ronan McKenna, Brendan Conway, Brendan Cunningham (Capt), Sean Quinn, Ciaran McKenna, Sean Murphy, Sean Nugent, Jarlath Quinn, Ollie McCreesh and subs on the day were; Brendan Burns and Joe Cunningham.
