Tyrone GAA | GAA MAIN SPONSOR - E.Quinn Contracts

Before Us … Romhainn

Gaelic football in Pomeroy can be traced back to Pomeroy Emmetts who played their first game against Sixmilecross on Sunday 15th November 1908.

Those first Gaels kept gaelic games alive in our Parish until 1916, when a great resurgence was sweeping over Ireland. In those stirring times the Plunketts Club was born. Placing their Club under the patronage of Saint Oliver Plunkett and dedicating it to the memory of Joseph Mary Plunkett, Gaels of Pomeroy commenced a new chapter in their history.

With Us … In éineacht linn

The Plunketts, provide Gaelic games and associated activities for over 300 of our young people, where more than 16 teams of boys and girls, men and women participate on a weekly basis. Scór and Handball are also represented with distinction at the highest level by club members. Yet, the past has taught us that to stay strong and vibrant we must shape the future with our continued effort and participation so as to pass the legacy onto the next generation in the best possible standing. we must keep the club at the centre of our community, the focal point for people of all ages, abilities and interests. Anything less would under value our club legacy and the work of the men and women who created that legacy.

After Us … In ár ndiaidh

We unashamedly see Pomeroy Plunketts and our delivery of Gaelic Games as a bulwark against those pressures and difficulties. Everything our club does is aimed at:

Giving our young people confidence and a strong sense of self worth

Making them proud of who they are and where they’re from

Helping them make good, positive lifestyle choices

Giving them a focus; a sense of teamwork and discipline; and healthy, structured and enjoyable activity

Building a Pomeroy Plunketts community spirit and binding our people together

Cementing the breadth and depth of gaelic tradition locally

Contributing to the development of Tyrone and Ulster GAA overall
