SENIORS
1-16 to 2-10
The championship got underway on Sunday 30th May in Omagh against Augher.
This was a nail biting game until the very end with score for score all through the game but our boys were able to pull together and with great team support and determination they proved we can win games away from Plunkett Park and indeed when it counts.
Augher opened the scoring with a point in the first minute but we answered back with a Mark McKenna free from 30 yards out and a point from Sean Murphy, Augher scored another two points before Ollie McCreesh got his first point of the day in the 10th minute, Mark McKenna was again able to convert a free into a point, Sean Murphy was again on hand to put over another point. But not to be undone Augher made it up the field and bagged themselves a goal and a point from a free. Pomeroy were hungry for the ball and got four points within the next three minutes supplied by Mark McKenna, Ronan McKenna, Jarlath Quinn and Sean Murphy, Augher again replied with two points, Mark McKenna got the last point of the first half in the one minute of extra time. Pomeroy went in at half time one point up. Half time score Pomeroy 0-10 Augher 1-6.
Pomeroy started the second half with a need to put some distance between the two teams and Sean Murphy who was on great form got his fourth point of the game, with great ball being supplied to the forwards Ollie McCreesh again got a point and Mark McKenna pointed a free. In the eighth minute Christopher Colhoun was injured and substitute Kevin Armstorng came on in his place. Ciaran Cunningham came up and also added his name to the score sheet. Michael Quinn replaced Brendan Cunningham as a blood sub. It was almost twelve minutes before Augher were able to get their first score of the second half and with Michael Quinn only on the pitch for two minutes he got a great point. Ollie McCreesh again kept his shoulder to the wheel to extend Pomeroy’s lead and keep the pressure on. With great midfielding the ball came into Jarlath Quinn who caught it and sunk it into the back of the net for a superb goal, Augher were able to reply with a point scored from a free and it was after this the blood substitute ended and Brendan Cunningham came back into the game. Michael Quinn replaced Brendan Conway in the 25th minute. Augher then started to apply pressure and scored a point and a goal which opened the game up and when they scored another point one minute later the game was on again and Augher were hungry for more scores but the Pomeroy defenders pulled ranks and wouldn’t let them through and when Augher got a free with the last kick of the ball they had no opportunity but to go for goal but with everyone back on the line the ball was stopped and with that in 34th minute the whistle was blown for full time.

LADIES
5-11 to 4-11
Pomeroy edged out Mna na Deirge in an exciting championship quarterfinal at Carrickmore. Mna na Deirge made the better start with two quick points, Pomeroy responded with a point from Michaela Mc Namee, then Mna na Deirge scored point and goal. Pomeroy responded well and took the lead with a goal from Jane Loughran and points from Jane Loughran, Paula Molloy and Michaela Mc Namee. The lead changed three more times before half time with Mna na Deirge regaining it with two points, Pomeroy retook it with points from Michaela mc Guigan and Nuala Mc Namee before a Mna na Deirge goal gave them a two point lead. This was reduced to a one point when Evelyn Hagan had the final point of a very close first half to leave the score Mna na Deirge 2:5 Pomeroy 1:7.
Mna na Deirge had the first point of the second half before Pomeroy regained the lead through a point and goal from Evelyn Hagan. However an injury to Pomeroy’s centre half back Caroline Goodfellow left a period reorganising for the Pomeroy backs. Mna na Deirge capitalised with two goals and five points with only a goal from Paula Molloy steaming the flow during this period to leave six points between the teams. With the game entering the last ten minutes Pomeroy had many chances and maybe tried for goals when points were on and with an extra player on the Mna na Deirge goal line time was running out to make the breakthrough. Michaela Mc Namee finally did make the breakthrough with a point and then a goal. Moria Quinn then scored a goal to give Pomeroy a one point lead, two more points from Michaela Mc Namee put some distance between the teams.
The lead in this game changed many times, it flowed from end to end with quality play from both teams. Pomeroy had more possession but Mna na Deirge were more efficient, however Pomeroy’s all round teamwork, fitness and determination seen them run winners in this entertaining championship quarter final.
Pomeroy team and scores: Colleen Girvan, Lisa Murray, Stacey Corr, Alica Flanagan, Caroline Goodfellow, Niamh Armstrong, Nuala Mc Namee 0-1, Paula Molloy 1-1, Catriona Mc Kenna, Evelyn Hagan 1-2, Michaela Mc Guigan 0-1, Jane Loughran 1-1, Michaela Mc Namee 1-5.
