Pomeroy 0-11 Urney 1-10
It was a case of Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde as the first and second half performances from the seniors could not have been more different at Healy Park, Omagh last friday night.
The poor start was further compounded by a baffling decision by Stewartstown Referee Shane Dorrity to award a penalty against Marty McCreesh after he pulled of a superb diving block. McCreesh was deemed to have been guilty of a foot block and Urney’s Johnny Lafferty dually dispatched his penalty in off the post. Indeed, Marty pulled of a similar save minutes later as Urney’s Shane Coyle bared down on goal, only for the Harps man to wave play on. Where’s the consistancy? Where’s the logic?
Sour grapes? No. The referee cannot be held to account as we just didn’t perform in the first half and Urney went in 1-6 to 0-2 up. Pomeroy registering points courtesy of Justin Lambe and Ciaran McKenna.
Declan McCallan must have had the hairdryer out in force during the interval as a resurgent Plunketts took the field for the second period.
Urney registered the first score before Ollie McCreesh pointed after good work from Rony McKenna on the wing. Sean Murphy was showing well and knocked over 2 frees prior to Jarleth Quinn swivling in front of goal to knock over a score from about 20 yards. Urney slotted over a free before points from Seany Nugent and Sean Quinn narrowed the gap. Denver Nugent, having a fine game at wing half back, converted 2 great scores on the run. Hugh Pat McGeary stroked over an excellent score form the right after coming off the bench and despite 2 late chances going a begging it just wasn’t our night as Urney broke on the counter to finish with a late score.
Verdict: A disapointing first half performance cost us. Urney fully worth their win despite a wonderful Plunketts fightback.
