RESERVES

The reserves were in good form and in the first half the score was drawn 0.6 to 1.3. The Pomeroy boys were in good shape and dominated most of the second half with some great displays all over the field but Urney were not going to give up easily but by the end whistle the Plunketts had done enough to secure a win.

1-7 to 2-5
TEAM; Marty McCreesh (CAPT), Denver Nugent, Kieran Cunningham, Brendan Burns, Ronan Quinn, Ciaran McKenna (1.0), Ronan McKenna (0.1), Mark McKenna (0.2), Brendan Cunningham, John Loughran, Sean Murphy (0.1), Kevin Armstrong, Christopher Colhune (0.2), Sean Nugent and Hugh McNamee (0.1). Urney came out very strong and applied pressure to the Plunketts from the start but Pomeroy opened the scoring with a point from Sean Murphy, both teams worked hard and with both defending brilliantly and it was the 15th minute before Urney were able to break in to the scoring with a goal. Chrio Colhune put over the next score for the Plunketts. Urney again were pushing forward and were able to penetrate the defence and again put in another goal followed by a point. The Plunketts fought back and Hugh McNamee putting over a free. But the game was to change when Denver Nugent won the ball about the 13 and carried it up the field and after being fouled made a quick pass to Brendan Cunningham who gave the ball to Ciaran McKenna who hammered it into the net in the 21st minute, Mark McKenna put over a free and this was the last score of a very exciting end to end first half. First half score 1-4 to 2-1.
The second half was to be even more intense with the ball up and down the field. Urney got 3 unanswered scores to put them ahead before Mark McKenna put over a free in the 16th minute, followed by a point from Chrio Colhune bringing it back to a point game. Urney put over the next point followed by Ronan McKenna. In the last couple of minutes the Plunketts tried to penetrate the Urney defence but were just not able to get that point to draw the game and it was Urney who got the last score of the game in the 32nd minute to win the game by 2 points.

On Wednesday 4th May, on a cold wet evening the boys began their Championship campaign away to Loughmacrory.
Loughmacrory set the pace and Pomeroy a bit slower to start, but when Anthony McKenna make a great save and the ball was worked up the field and a well timed pass from Kieran McGeary to Gavin Goodfellow who bagged it, this brought the game back to a point game and with the Plunketts winning all the breaking ball they were able to push forward to score a further 3 points to put the boys up by 2 points.
The second half saw the Plunketts pull away from Loughmacrory and in great style win the game by 7 points.
The boys had a busy week as they had a league game that still had to be played and were at home against Eglish on Friday 6th May. The boys were in great form and won the game.
MINOR GIRLS
1-8 to 1-9
TEAM; Eimear McKenna, Zara Girvan, Maire Quinn, Sara Louise Cunningham, Niamh Armstrong, Aishling Molloy, Maria Quinn, Lucy Begley, Dearbhla Quinn, Michaela McGuigan, Shauna Girvan, Michaela McNamee and Jane Loughran.
The girls were in the semi final of the Championship on Friday 6th May when they faced Urney.
This was never going to be an easy game as this was to be the 3rd time the girls have met in a number of weeks. The last time we met the Plunketts won the League final in a very high scoring game with the best football the girls had played all season. But Urney were not going to be out done and both teams gave their all on the day, the Plunketts cailins taking control and pulling ahead in the 1st half, 1.5 – 0.4. But in the second half we could not penetrate the Urney defence but they continued to push through and pulled back the score and in the dying minutes of the game the game was still to be anyones with 2 points in it. The Plunketts pushed through and when the goalie made a save we put over a point to bring it down to a point but that was to be the last score of the game as the referee blew up the game.
The Committee would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the girls and their management, Felix Nugent and Nuala McNamee, on their successful season, which saw them lift the first silverware for the Plunketts when they beat Urney in the league final, the girls won all their games except for this last game in which Urney beat them by a point.
