Tyrone GAA | GAA MAIN SPONSOR - E.Quinn Contracts

Notes 24th May 2011

Trike Race & BBQ

Make your way to the starting grid this Sunday 29th May to see our ladies and men’s footballers take part in our first ever Trike Grand Prix. The fun kicks off from 5pm in Murphy’s Bar carpark and Stepz Restaurant will be providing a BBQ. It’s sure to be a great days craic. Who will take the checkered flag? Who will go to any extreme to win? Admission is £5.  Our players will be lifting sponsorship for their participation so please give them your full support.

It’s Bank Holiday Monday why not finish off the evening in Murphy’s Front Bar with music by our very own “An Beagleacht” who is back once again by unpopular demand for one night only.

Website

The “Web Wagon” was on the road again. This week we catch up with Senior star Crico as he reveals all in our “Q & A”. Also, COMING SOON – John Devlin takes us down memory lane as he marks his 20th year as our Club Referee and in the first of our “In Exile” features we hopped on a plane and made our way over to New Zealand where we caught up with former seniors Stevie McKenna and Joe Cunningham to find out how our Gaels are getting on Down Under, and yes…..they put a few shrimps on the Barbie!

Lotto

This weeks lucky numbers are: 10, 13, 16, 22 & 29. Ten winners matched three numbers. The snowball now carries over to next week and stands at £350. The jackpot remains at £20,000. Please support the clubs weekly lotto and remember “If your not in, you can’t win”.

Senior Football

Stewartstown 1-11 Pomeroy 2-7

It was one of those days for the boys on Friday last. Too many wasted chances despite having our fair share of possession cost us dearly in the end. We still remain joint top of the league however after a very positive start. Team & scorers; Martin McCreesh (capt.), Brendan Burns, Denver Nugent, Hugh Pat McGeary, Ronan Quinn, Ciaran McKenna (0-1), Sean Nugent, Ronan McKenna, Brendan Cunningham, John Loughran (0-1), Sean Murphy (0-1), Kevin Armstrong, Christopher Colhoun (1-1), Jarlath Quinn (0-1), Sean Quinn (1-1). Subs: John McCourt for McCreesh, Justin McCaffery for S Quinn, Ciaran Cunningham for R Quinn and Mark McKenna for Loughran.

Reserve Football

Stewartstown 1-13 Pomeroy 1-12

It was a similar scenario for the Reserves whose luck just ran out in the end. A very poor first half saw the lads trail by a massive eleven points at half time. To their credit they put in a fine second period but left themselves with a mountain to climb, just failing to reach the summit therefore losing by the narrowest of margins. They’ll look to put that right this week and get back on track.

Both reserves and seniors are in action on Saturday away to Eskra. Throw in times are 2pm and 3:30pm respectively.

Ladies Championship semi-final

The ladies senior team will take on Edendork in the semi-final of the championship on Saturday June 4th. The venue has yet to be confirmed.

Youth News

Minor Training – The lads are asked to be in attendance at Plunkett Park for training on Monday 6th June for 6:45pm sharp.

U10 girls – Blitz will take place this Saturday 28th May in the Rock 10:30am

U14 boys – Under 14 boys made the trip to the loughshore on Saturday when they were beat in semi finals of the league. They lost out in their final league game to Derrylaughan with the game finishing Pomeroy 2-1 Derrylaughan 6-6. This wraps up the season for the lads. Many thanks to the players for their courage and determination all year and to the managers,  Pearse, Dessie and Jack for their hard work and dedication. Thanks also to the parents who continue to send their children and encourage them to participate in our games.

Heart Screening

The club are going to run a Heart Screening evening next month. This will cost £35 and anyone interested needs to be 14 years and over. If interested contact Maeve Nugent by 31st May on 07775635391

Run For Michaela

A run in memory of Michaela Harte McAreavey has been organised and all 48 clubs in Tyrone plus John McAreaveys home club, Tullyllish and The Academy Dungannon, (where Michaela was a teacher), will host a 10k (along with a family 5k walk/run) event. These fifty 10k events will total a 500k collective effort for the Foundation and contribute to Michaela’s enduring legacy. Donation of £10 a head for 5k/10k run/walk (or per young family on 5k walk)

So we would like everyone to come together and show our support to the foundation. Pomeroy will show their support on Wednesday 20th July.
