A word of thanks to everyone who took part in the sponsored trike race, which was a huge success and will no doubt will become an annual event. The weather stayed dry as everyone congregated in Murphys carpark, where a figure 8 track had been set up. A great crowd watched and most also took part in the races. The main event was the senior mens and ladies footballers race and through a series of eliminations the final four were; Zara Girvan, Hugh Pat McGeary, Ryan Begley and Kevin Armstrong. The finalists had to do 4 laps of the circuit, and with some crashes and derailments the winner was Kevin Armstrong with second place going to Ryan Begley. Another race had to be run to get the third place winner so Zara and Hugh Pat lined up again and with some holding each other back, Hugh Pat pulled away and Zara couldn’t catch him. Another highlight of the day was the celebrities race which consisted of Enda Kilpatrick, Plunkett McGeary, Gerry McKenna and Lorraine Girvan. Enda pulled away quickly with everyone else in his shadow, but when Gerry fell off Lorraine over took him and passed Plunkett who was stuck in the tyres. Enda winning this easily with Lorraine in second. Keep an eye on the Plunketts website for some photos of the races.
A special word of thanks to Brendan Fullen and Patsy Begley who have worked hard in putting this original idea together, to Murphys Bar for the use of their premises, to Christy & Stevie Colhoun for DJ-ing and compering, to Mark Girvan for the BBQ and to Stepz restaurant for suppling the food. And most of all to all who took part and to those who were there to cheer them.
