Pomeroy 0-17 Urney 0-7
A wonderful first half display by a young reserve team brushed aside a robust Urney at Gortin last Friday night. Played in sublime weather conditions, the lads put together slick passing combinations executed at speed all over the field and produced some ruthless efficiency in front of goal. Hugh McNamee showed wonderfully in the first ten minutes as a link man setting up scores for Emmet Campbell and Mark Corr. Indeed it was great to see Corr back on the sod after a lengthy lay-off and he put in some sterling work in the first period. Charlie Corcoran was also to the fore tirelessly tracking back and combining well with Nial McKeever and John Loughran at midfield, with McKeever disrupting any opportunity that Urney had to break and always looking to set up an attack. Gareth McAleer managed two splendid 45’s in succession displaying wonderful technique from the dead ball. Quick distribution into the forward line from Joe Cunningham and Mickey Mills was causing all sorts of havoc in the Urney defence and both Eunan McCourt and Ciaran Mullin combined numerously to set up Campbell who was on devastating form. The Plunketts going in at half time 0-12 to 0-2 in the lead.
Urney came out with a bit more fight in the second half and went about disrupting our game somewhat. It had limited effect though as John Loughran could not be contained as he continued his driving runs from the middle knocking over some superb scores. Gareth McAleer popped up for his 3rd point of the match as Campbell maintained his accuracy from both frees and from play. John McCourt was forced into a point blank save late on as Urney turned the screw but we never looked in danger with Micky McDonald, Ronan Quinn and Oisin Quinn performing a virtual “shut-out” in defence. Charlie Corcoran and McCourt registered scores as the lads powered their way through to the reserve final, our second in three years. Congratulations to the lads on a fantastic all round team performance.
