Sen & Res V Galbally – Reports

Seniors

Pomeroy 1-10 Galbally 1-18

Unfortunately for the Plunketts it was just one of those days and the Pearses took full advantage as the lads struggled in the blistering heat at Plunkett Park on Sunday past.

The game started at pace immediately with Galbally getting the first 2 scores early on from play and a converted 30 metre free respectively. John Loughran was first on the tally for the homeside with a score from the right on the run with the Plunketts shooting in to the Parkview end, followed by Justy McCaffery free on the right from 30 yards. Frank Burns replied with a score on the run cutting in from the right with a low drive over the bar to cancel a blues point with 10 mins played and it was looking good for the lads as Hugh McNamee sprang to life in the 12th Minute with a fine long distance score followed by another from close range giving the Plunketts a 0-5 to 0-3 lead with 16 mins on the clock.

That was about as good as it got for the rest of the half as Galbally began to dominate. The visitors registered 3 scores without reply (2 from close range frees in front of goal). Ollie McCreesh popped up to level on the 28th min but Galbally had the final say of the half with a simple 20 metre free in front of the Pomeroy goals to leave the half time score Pomeroy 0-6 Galbally 0-7.

Pomeroy didn’t learn the lessons of the first half and another free conceded early was punishhed in the 31st min. Marty McKeever kicked a fine score from play on the run showing some great composure but Galbally replied with 2 scores, one of which was a free from 30 yards. Ollie McCreesh finished off a great move after some fine link up play with McKeever and McCaffery to beat the keeper low to his bottom left and this should have spurred the lads on but exactly 1 minute later the ball was in our own net with Galbally cancelling out with a goal from close range on 38 mins.

This was a disaster for the lads and the Galbally men could sense the heads dropping. They went on to register 4 points, all from play before Kezzy Armstrong stopped the rot when his dropping drive was tipped over by the keeper. John McCourt pulled off a superb save in the 46th min diving to stop a certain major. Galbally stroked one over from play before Sean Quinn narrowed the gap with a fine point on the left from a tight angle. Galbally pointed with the next attack and indeed, seemed to be finding the target alot easier than the Plunketts. Justy McCaffery picked up another from play on the right before a 50/50 clash  involving Kieran McGeary and the Galbally keeper held up play as both received treatment with 3 minutes to play.

The visitors made sure of the win with a strong finish, a pointed free kick in the 62nd min followed by a final score from play left the final score Pomeroy 1-10 Galbally 1-18.

A bad day at the office compounded by to many free kicks given away but there is no doubt that the lads will want to turn it around for this Saturdays home game against Moortown St Malachy’s. Throw in is at 6pm.

Reserves V Galbally

Pomeroy 5-13 Galbally 0-3

This encounter could not have been more different than the senior game as the lads took it to the visitors right from the off. Galbally got first blood with a pointed sideline before Darren Wallace produced a hammer blow with a goal on 5 mins blasting home on the run. Sean Quinn stroked over from play before Emmet Campbell decided to produce a masterful first half performance getting his first of the day from a pointed free.

Campbell picked up one from play before goal machine Kezzy Nugent hammered home a major from close range. The Plunketts went goal crazy at this stage as Campbell produced a mesmerising hat-trick with 3 goals in quick succession each one better than the next. Galbally managed 2 scores before the break to leave the half time score Pomeroy 5-4 Galbally 0-3.

The visitors tightened up somewhat in the second period. They got the first score before Eddie Corcoran curled one over from the left shooting in to the Parkview end. Campbell popped up to cancel out a Galbally free but the visitors managed to put one past Anthony McKenna’s outstretched arm to find the back of the net. Emmet Campbell and Eunie McCourt registered before Brendan Conway knocked over a 30 metre free. Stevie Colhoun registered for the Plunketts after Galbally scraped another goal after a scramble in the 6 yard area. Stevie McKenna pointed from a free and Eddie Corcoran polished off a fine display with one off his left boot to leave the final score Pomeroy 5-13 Galbally 2-5.

Man of the match – obviously Emmet Campbell (it’s not every day that you score 3-5). Next up for the lads is a home fixture this Saturday against Moortown St Malachy’s. Throw in is at 4:30pm.
