Pomeroy 2-5 Urney 2-6
It was dissapointment on Thursday night in Newtownstewart as our Senior Men lost out in the Intermediate Championship to Urney for the second year running. It was a tense affair throughout with neither team really getting a foothold on proceedings.
Urney were guilty of missing the target on nine occasions in the first half (15 in total) whilst Pomeroy had to work far too hard to make any telling shooting opportunity count. Possession was at a premium, particularly in midfield where the Plunketts struggled for any kind of significant foothold. A high ball in to Jarlath Quinn on the edge of the square caused Urney problems with Crico Colhoun driving home to the net from the breaking ball but we failed to capitilise on this and Urney regained their composure. Half time Pomeroy 1-2 Urney 0-5.
Justin McCaffery stepped up to dispatch a fine penalty in the second half but again momentum swung Urney’s way as we struggled to cope with their strength in the tackle. It is always difficult to concede such a narrow defeat in championship football but this was a game that could have went either way and Urney probably shaded it in the end to be fair. Dispite having to deal with an on form Jonny Laverty, Denver Nugent played well keeping the ace attacker to just 2 points from play and led from the back in the second half setting up a number of attacks. Brendan Burns and Hugh Pat McGeary also played well for the Plunketts in what was a fairly poor game of football. Full time Pomeroy 2-5 Urney 2-6.
