Pomeroy 5-7 Mna Na Deirg 4-6

Fintona was the place to be on Friday past as the Pomeroy Senior Ladies picked up their first ever league title to round off a magnificent season. They beat fierce rivals Mna Na Deirg by a four point margin to take the junior league title back home.

Nuala McNamee and Evelyn Hagan worked tirelessly. It must be said that the girls dominated possession throughout the game winning most of the early exchanges in midfield. Captain Caroline Goodfellow was inspirational pushing forward to point from distance whilst Jane Loughran and Maria Quinn were constantly available in the forward line. The Derg made it considerably difficult for us, using their experience to give us only a slender one point lead at half time on a scoreline of Pomeroy 2-4 Mna Na Deirg 2-3.

Going into the second period it was imperative that we built on our first half possession. Michaela McGuigan and Michaela McNamee capitilising on some absent defending, with the later fisting home from close range after a long ball in from sister Nuala. It was score for score at this point but with the Derg having a player sin-binned for the closing stages, Pomeroy’s superior fitness shone through and saw them over the line with Clare Corrigan, Zara Girvan, Stacey Corr and Niamh Armstrong immense at the back. Final score Pomeroy 5-7 Mna Na Deirg 4-6.

Well done to Felix Nugent, Denver Nugent, Lorraine Girvan and Joe Cunningham and to all the girls on a wonderful effort throughout the season. Roll on next year!!
